In a letter to government officials the Massachusetts-based Hologic outlined plans to close their Indianapolis plant and lay off all 141 of its workers stationed there.

The Indianapolis plant manufactures breast biopsy products for the women’s health company, and finds itself the second plant in under 6 months to experience closure, the first being a Madison, Wis. plant (a planned cut due to the  acquisition of a San Diego-based diagnostics company Gen-Probe), in August of last year. The layoffs will cut a total of 2.4% of Hologic’s total workforce, in an effort to restructure their breast biopsy division. This closure comes in the heels of Hologic’s announcement of the sale of its LIFECODES division to Immucor.
