CNBC recently posted a video about ghost jobs. In the video, they explain how these are on the rise. So, what are they? Ghost jobs are positions that don’t exist yet appear open for candidates to apply for. How and why does this happen? One reason is that companies could need that position in the near future and want to get ahead of the opening. Sometimes, the position has been filled, and the post hasn’t been removed. Nothing nefarious is happening; it’s more of a function of technology and the rapidly evolving job market.

Matthew De Cesare, Business Development Director at Healthcare Recruiters International, says, “The rise of applicant tracking systems and overall automation of job postings has created an environment where ghost jobs will continue to thrive. As the overall job market continues to trend in the right direction and more companies begin hiring, I believe that there will be a down tick in ghost jobs, as companies start hiring. Unfortunately, ghost jobs will not disappear due to the overall ease of the underlying mechanics of automation.”

Matthew makes another important point, “I talk to people daily who ask about ghost jobs. The only way to know is to talk with someone, either at the company or to work with a trusted recruiter. Outside of engaging a human, you cannot tell what is or is not a ghost job.”

This is one of the many reasons to work with a recruiter for your next position.

At Healthcare Recruiters International, we only post open and available jobs. Our jobs page lists all of our positions. You can easily apply online if you’re interested in any of these positions.
