Special Education Teacher (SPED Teacher)
Full-Time | Sonoma, CA | $70,000 – $107,000
We are seeking a Special Education Teacher (SPED Teacher) to support students ages 14–18 in a small, structured classroom setting (8–10 students). This role focuses on delivering individualized instruction, supporting behavioral growth, and ensuring IEP compliance within a highly supportive environment.
Position Overview
The Special Education Teacher will provide classroom instruction across core subjects while supporting students with a range of behavioral needs, including those on the autism spectrum. This is a unique opportunity to work in a setting that prioritizes small class sizes, collaboration, and meaningful student impact.
- 70% classroom teaching / 30% student support
- Small classrooms with 8–10 students
- Supported by 1–2 instructional/behavioral aides
- Structured school day with approximately 6 periods
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver instruction in one or more core subjects (History, English, Math, and/or Science)
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Ensure compliance with all special education policies and documentation requirements
- Build strong rapport with students ages 14–18
- Support students with behavioral and academic needs, including autism spectrum
- Collaborate with aides, staff, and leadership to maintain a structured classroom environment
- Provide supervision and behavioral support during transitions and non-classroom time
Minimum Requirements
- Special Education Certification (or actively in progress)
- Experience with IEPs, compliance, and documentation
- Experience working with adolescents in an educational or behavioral setting
- Ability to teach one or more core subjects
- Ability to pass background check, TB test, physical, and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications
- Spanish-speaking (bilingual) Not a deal breaker
- Experience supporting students with behavioral needs and/or autism spectrum disorders
- Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $70,000 – $107,000
